6+1 Trait® Writing Scoring Practice

There is absolutely no better way to understand the analytical model than to use it yourself. Whether you are a teacher or a student, this instructional tool will help you better understand each of the six traits of writing.

You will first have to select which area of writing you want to focus on. Select from the list below to further study an individual trait.

  • Ideas, the heart of the message
  • Organization, the internal structure of the piece
  • Voice, the personal tone and flavor of the author's message
  • Word Choice, the vocabulary a writer chooses to convey meaning
  • Sentence Fluency, the rhythm and flow of the language
  • Conventions, the mechanical correctness

Besides our full set of practice papers, we also have example papers online for you to look at. These papers have been scored and are available for download at Scored Examples.
